Women's Cross Country Blog (Melissa #2)

6 miles, 7 miles, 8, 9, 10, and the miles keep going.

We are well into our season, and many great achievements have come. Many of us are improving from practices to races. As each race goes by our times have been dropping a lot.

Maritza Hernandez has been named CCAA Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of Sept. 13-19. We have also gone up to being seventh in the most recent NCAA Division II West Region rankings.

The latest race that we have competed in was the Pomona Pitzer Invitational. We finished seventh out of the twelve teams that were racing. Many of us improved our times by more than one to two minutes from the first 6k we raced at the Fullerton Invitational. In CrossCountry improving our times by that much takes a lot of hard work.

We really liked that course. The weather was great as well. It rained for the first mile which kept us cool.

I can see that our team is bonding great. Each of us is helping each other get through these practices. We are also getting stronger, the drills and weight workouts that we do are easy to us now.

Our next race will be on October 16th at the Northridge Invitational. It will be at the Cricket / Japanese Garden Area- Woodley Park at 7:45a.m.

As for now, each of us will be running for an hour and forty-five minutes on Saturday.

That’s going to be a lot of miles!
